Mantel Clocks
Mantel Clocks received their name from the tradition of placing them on the mantel shelf on the fireplace. Most of the clocks have wooden cases and feature chiming movements.
Quartz mantel clocks are the most accurate and never need winding. Movements can last up to 20 years without maintenance, but the battery will likely need to be changed every few years.
Key-wound mantel clocks, usually referred to as "8 day clocks," need to be wound about once a week. Most of the movements in these clocks were made in Germany and will last for generations if properly maintained. This also increases the value of the clock.
